Cruising Crawlers
This drop-in class is a FREE open play opportunity to all students who are in their crawling stage of life or learning to crawl. Children will have the opportunity to move around on different mats and equipment to promote exploring in a safe and positive environment. Our trained and certified coaches will place different equipment on the floor to encourage children to move and socialize with others their age. This is a non-structured event and a parent/guardian is required to accompany their child at all times. Once a child can walk independently, they will be promoted to our Tumble Tots class.
To maximize play time, we recommend filling out the waiver form prior to attending!

Benefits
1. Strengthens Muscles & Joints
-
Core and Upper Body Strength: Crawling helps strengthen the muscles in the arms, shoulders, back, and core. It requires the child to support their body weight and coordinate their movements.
-
Legs and Hips: Crawling also strengthens the muscles in the legs, hips, and lower back, preparing them for later activities such as walking, running, and climbing.
2. Improves Coordination & Motor Skills
-
Cross-Lateral Movements: Crawling promotes the development of cross-lateral movement, where the child uses opposite limbs (right hand with left knee and vice versa). This pattern is important for building coordination and laying the groundwork for walking, running, and even more complex tasks like writing.
-
Balance and Spatial Awareness: As infants crawl, they learn to balance and navigate their environment, improving their sense of spatial awareness and body orientation.
3. Enhances Cognitive Development
-
Brain Development: The physical movement of crawling stimulates the brain, supporting neural connections in areas related to spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and memory. The coordination between the brain’s left and right hemispheres during crawling contributes to improved cognitive processing.
-
Sensory Exploration: Crawling exposes children to different textures, temperatures, and environments, stimulating their sensory development and helping them to learn about the world around them.
4. Improves Hand-Eye Coordination
Crawling helps babies improve their hand-eye coordination as they have to adjust their arm and leg movements to keep balance and move toward a goal, such as a toy or a parent.
5. Promotes Independence & Confidence
As babies learn to crawl, they gain more control over their movements and are able to explore their environment independently. This fosters a sense of confidence and autonomy as they learn to navigate spaces and overcome obstacles.

6. Encourages Social Interaction
When babies crawl, they are more likely to explore and engage with their caregivers, other children, and their environment. Crawling towards familiar faces or objects strengthens social bonds and communication skills.
7. Prepares for Future Skills
Crawling is a precursor to walking and other advanced motor skills. The physical coordination and strength built during crawling form the foundation for walking, running, climbing, and other more complex physical tasks.
8. Supports Postural Development
As babies learn to crawl, they work on strengthening their muscles and improving posture. Crawling involves lifting the torso and balancing on the hands and knees, which is crucial for developing proper posture for sitting, standing, and eventually walking.
9. Promotes Sensory Integration
Crawling helps babies integrate sensory input by encouraging them to respond to various textures, sounds, and visual cues from their surroundings. This sensory integration is vital for overall development.
10. Increases Cardiovascular Health
Like any physical activity, crawling increases the heart rate and supports cardiovascular health. Regular movement strengthens the heart and lungs and helps improve overall stamina and endurance.
